Cataclysm Classic Leatherworking Leveling Guide 1-525

This Cataclysm Classic Leatherworking leveling guide will show you the fastest and cheapest way to level Leatherworking up from 1 to 525 in Cataclysm Classic.

I recommend trying Zygor's 1-85 Leveling Guide if you are still leveling your character or you just started a new alt. The guide will help you to reach level 85 a lot faster.

Leveling Cataclysm Classic Leatherworking

1 - 55

NOTE: You can buy the threads, dyes, and salt from Leatherworking Supply vendors near your trainer.

  • 1-20
19x Light Leather - 57 Ruined Leather Scraps

Make the next recipe if you don't have Ruined Leather Scraps.

Journeyman Leatherworking

Visit your trainer and learn Journeyman Leatherworking. (Requires level 10)

55 - 100

50x Embossed Leather Gloves - 150 Light Leather, 100 Coarse Thread

100 - 120

25x Fine Leather Belt - 150 Light Leather, 50 Coarse Thread

Check the Auction house and if 1x Medium Hide is cheaper than 4x Medium Leather then buy up to 25 of them. Don't buy more than 25, and don't buy them if they are expensive.

Make as many Cured Medium Hide as you can.

Keep both the Fine Leather Belt and the Cured Medium Hide because you can make Dark Leather Belt with them.

120 - 135

20x Dark Leather Boots - 80 Medium Leather, 40 Fine Thread, 20 Gray Dye

Alternative recipe

If you made Cured Medium Hide, make as many Dark Leather Belt as you can instead of the boots. (you should stop making them at 150)

Expert Leatherworking

Visit your trainer and learn Expert Leatherworking. (Requires level 20)

135 - 155

155 - 200

If you have no Heavy Hides, follow the "Leveling with Heavy Leather" route. If you get some, you can mix both routes. For example, if you get around 5 Heavy Hides, make 5x Cured Heavy hides, swap to the other route, then you you can stop making Dusky Bracers at 195 and switch to Guardian Gloves.

  • 155-165
20x Cured Heavy Hide - 20 Heavy Hide, 60 Salt

You will need the Cured Heavy Hides later.

Salt is sold by the Leatherworking or Trade supply vendor near your trainer.

  • 190-200
10x Guardian Gloves - 40 Heavy Leather, 10 Cured Heavy Hide, 10 Silken Thread
  • 185-200
15x Dusky Bracers - 240x Heavy Leather, 15x Black Dye, 30x Silken Thread

Black Dye is sold by the Leatherworking supply vendor near your trainer.

Artisan Leatherworking

Visit your trainer and learn Artisan Leatherworking. (Requires level 35)

200 - 300

  • 205-235
40x Nightscape Headband - 200 Thick Leather, 80 Silken Thread

You need a bit more Silken Thread to make these than the Thick Armor kits, but you can sell the Headbands to the vendor for a lot more, so they are cheaper than making the armor kits.

Master Leatherworking (300-350)

Visit your trainer and learn Master Leatherworking. (Requires level 50)

300 - 325

Before making the armor kits, turn all your Knothide Leather Scraps into Knothide Leather if you farmed the leathers.

30x Knothide Armor Kit - 120 Knothide Leather

The recipe will be yellow, so you might have to make a few more.

Alternative recipe:

You can make Wicked Leather Belt up to 325 if you can get a lot of cheap Rugged Leather. You will need around 400x Rugged Leather to reach 325.

You can make them up to 330 because the recipe is still yellow at that point, but you will need to craft some Heavy Knothide Leather for leveling Leatherworking anyway, so the 325-335 part is basically "free".

325 - 335

66x Heavy Knothide Leather - 330 Knothide Leather

You can stop making Heavy Knothide Leathers when you reach 335 and make the rest of them later.

335 - 350

22x Thick Draenic Vest - 66 Heavy Knothide Leather, 66 Rune Thread

It will be yellow for 10 points, so you might have to make a few more to reach 350.

You can buy Rune Thread from the Leatherworking supply vendor near your trainer.

Alternative recipe

18x Scaled Draenic Boots - 36 Heavy Knothide Leather, 36 Fel Scales, 54 Rune Thread

The Scaled Draenic Boots can be a good alternative if you can get cheap Fel Scales.

The recipe will be yellow for the last 5 points, so you might have to make a few more to reach 350.

Grand Master Leatherworking

Visit your trainer and learn Grand Master Leatherworking. (Requires level 65)

350 - 410

Transform all your Borean Leather Scraps into Borean Leather if you are a Skinner. Do not right-click the Leather Scraps, there is a recipe that you can learn from your trainer that gives you skill-ups; use that. It's basically free skill points.

390 - 425

Go to the Auction House and check the Arctic Fur prices.

Buy 20x Arctic Fur if 1x Arctic Fur is cheaper than 4x Heavy Borean Leather or 24x Borean Leather. (You can make Heavy Borean Leather with Borean Leathers)

If they are more expensive, jump to the "Leveling with Heavy Borean Leather section".

  • 405-410
    12x Arctic Wristguards - 144x Borean Leather

You might have to make more than 10 because this recipe is yellow.

  • 410-420
13x Dark Frostscale Leggings - 52x Heavy Borean Leather, 65x Crystallized Water

The recipe is yellow, so you might have to make more.

Cataclysm Classic Leatherworking (425-525)

Visit your trainer and learn the new Cataclysm Classic Leatherworking skill. (Requires level 75)

425 - 510

  • 425-435
10x Savage Leather - 50 Savage Leather Scraps

Start making the next recipe in the guide if you don't have Savage Leather Scraps, and if you have more Scraps, just make Savage Leather until it turns gray.

  • 450-460
10x Tsunami Boots - 70 Savage Leather, 10 Eternium Thread

You can buy Eternium Threads from Leatherworking Supply vendors, and you can also make any other item that requires 7 Savage Leather.

  • 460-470
10x Savage Cloak - 70 Savage Leather, 10 Eternium Thread

Or any other orange item that requires 7 Savage Leather.

  • 496-502
2x Cloak of Beasts - 16 Heavy Savage Leather, 4 Volatile Earth, 4 Volatile Air, 4 Volatile Water, 4 Volatile Fire
  • 502-504
2x Darkbrand Helm - 10 Heavy Savage Leather

It is really important to stop making these at 504!

  • 504-510
Make 2 from one of these:

2x Cloak of Beasts - 16 Heavy Savage Leather, 4 Volatile Earth, 4 Volatile Air, 4 Volatile Water, 4 Volatile Fire
2x Cloak of War - 120 Blackened Dragonscale

Darkmoon Faire Free +5 Profession Skill

Check your Calendar in-game to see if the Darkmoon Faire is open. The event is available every two weeks. It starts on Sunday and lasts for a week.

During the event, you can complete quests for each profession and gain +5 skill points for each. Click here to read more about the quests.

510 - 525

You can buy these recipes in all major cities near your Leatherworking Trainer, the NPC is labeled as "Leatherworking Supplies". This does not include Dalaran and Shattrath.

Every vendor recipe changes to yellow after 5 skill points. This means you're going to purchase a new recipe every 5 points. Each of these recipes gives you 2 skill points. You can use different recipes because most use the same amount of materials.

These are the recipes I used:

You will need 30 more Heavy Savage Leathers to buy the 3 recipes below.

Congratulations on reaching 525! Please send feedback about the guide if you think there are parts I could improve or if you found typos, errors, or wrong material numbers!
